Kinderschule conferences take place twice per year, in October and June. Staff arrange which Staff member meets with which families, and they contact each family to arrange a meeting time. The meeting would take about 10-15 minutes.
Rationale:
This is the best way to assure parents are getting what they want at Kinderschule. As it can be difficult to have an uninterrupted conversation about a child at drop-off or pick-up time, this allows the Staff Person and the parent(s) to communicate as to the child’s situation/abilities, the parents’ and Staff’s goals for the child, etc. Particularly for families new to Kinderschule, it is an opportunity to get to know one another. This will help build connections for future communication, but also for events, for volunteering for Kinderschule, etc. New parents can take the one-on-one time to ask questions that they may have not found a way to ask, or bring up concerns that have arisen either in the first weeks of Kinderschule. At the year-end it is a good chance to receive feedback on Kinderschule activities and to summarize our observations of the growth of the child at Kinderschule.
Cost:
Staff would be paid for a 15 minute period per child, with another half hour for preparation and organization. With 8 children each, it comes to a 2.5-hour overage per staff member, twice in the year. This is a total cost of about 10 work hours.
